I’m a fraud.
In my last email I wrote about getting the right views, not getting as many views as possible.
But why don’t I make YouTube videos? I don’t mean on my personal channel about quitting my job, but videos specifically for YouTubers.
Surely that would help me find more YouTubers who I can help, and who might buy my products?
And I talk about YouTube, so surely I should have a YouTube channel?
Right?
Yes, you’re so right.
But there is a reason why I haven’t taken this seriously yet.
As of right now, I have 4,470 beautiful YouTubers on this email list (they’ve come mainly through X)
And at the moment, that’s enough to be getting on with. I don’t have any team members yet, so I can only do so many things.
My biggest bottleneck right now isn’t finding new followers and growing my audience. It’s setting up the right systems in my business, so that when I do start to make more content, I’m ready to handle it and monetise efficiently.
Last week I mentioned the formula for a 6-figure YouTube business:
YouTube → Email → Offer → Delivery
It’s near impossible to make meaningful progress on every stage at once. You need to identify what your biggest bottleneck is, and work on that.
For you, maybe that’s still YouTube. You’re learning to make videos, figuring out what to talk about, and who you can help the most.
But at some point, making more videos stops being the bottleneck.
You have a big enough audience of your target viewers, and your email list has grown, but you’re not making any money. Adsense is barely enough to cover the coffees, and sponsors can be a nightmare.
That’s when you can take the time to focus on making products, and building the systems to grow your business.
So that’s what I’m doing right now.
It’s taken me a long time to learn the lesson of “doing things in sequence”.
But I’m tired of being tired. I’ve tried to to do too many things for too long.
I posted about this recently:
I’ve realised that making progress is so much more fun than satisfying my monkey brain’s strange desire to be doing all the things.
Stupid monkey brain.
Less stuff good. More stuff bad. Progress important. Me remember this.
Have an epic week!

P.s.
Today, I re-launched Thumbnail Masterclass.
It’s been closed for the past few months while the first 150 students went through the course, and I worked with them to improve it.
But it’s now available again. It’s a 1 day online course to take you from struggling beginner, to thumbnail pro. And it includes everything I wish I knew when I first started designing thumbnails for myself and Ali (especially Ali, the pressure was on!)
If you join before midnight on Monday GMT you’ll also get free access to a live workshop I’m hosting in February, about building a $100k+ YouTube business without sponsors or Adsense (this is exclusively for Thumbnail Masterclass customers, and yes it will be recorded).
Come see why 150+ YouTubers have taken the course already (the website is worth checking out):
Thank you for this great reminder - Sequencing has always been a challenge for me as well.
To quote Oprah: “You can have it all. Just not all at once.”
Loving the thumbnail course!
